Ethos

Ethos

Marylyn Manroe

She is iconic to Hollywood  People look up to her, wear her famous white dress at costume parties, has her as a tattoo, and uses her quotes still.

-“Hollywood is a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul. I know, because I turned down the first offer often enough and held out for the fifty cents.”

  • Known as a great actress in hollywood

Casablanca

"Set during World War II, the film focuses on a man torn between, in the words of one character, love and virtue. He must choose between his love for a woman and helping her Czech Resistance leader husband escape the Vichy-controlled Moroccan city of Casablanca to continue his fight against the Nazis".

Godfather

"Film stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino  as the leaders of a powerful New York crime family. The story, spanning the years 1945 to 1955, centers on the transformation of Michael  Corleone (Pacino) from reluctant family outsider to ruthless Mafia boss while also chronicling the Corleone family under the patriarch Vito Corleone (Brando)".

Argument

Intended argument: Hollywood is a dream, it is the place to be. When people think about California the first thing they say is Hollywood. Its where you see or be superstars, actors, actresses, directors, models, beauty and any one famous with money & .Hollywood's not called a dream factory for nothing. It manufactures optimism, and in the process of selling it, can make the possibility of success feel wondrously real.

Real Argument: Hollywood  is an essential part of the Los Angeles experience. Things to do in Hollywood include must-see shows and attractions, celebrity-frequented restaurants, and world class hotels. glamorous boulevard lined with beautiful shops and populated by movie stars or any that has “money”. Being in Hollywood does not make you a super star

The Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood Sign  is a landmark and American cultural icon located in Los Angeles, California. It is situated on Mount Lee in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains. The sign overlooks the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. "HOLLYWOOD" is spelled out in 45-foot-tall (14 m) and 350-foot-long (110 m) white capital letters. It was originally created as an advertisement for local real estate development in 1923, but garnered increasing recognition after the sign was left up.

The Hollywood Sign is Logos...

  • Its a historic land pieces that has been around since 1923.
  • The sign was officially dedicated on July 13, 1923. It was intended only to last a year and a half, but after the rise of the American cinema in Los Angeles during the Golden Age of Hollywood, the sign became an internationally recognized symbol
  • The total cost of the sign was $21,000 (about $265,000 today), and it was only expected to exist for 18 months.
  • The letters were 45ft tall, and the characters were outlined by 4,000 light bulbs to make it flash in segments — HOLLY, then WOOD, then LAND, before lighting up entirely.
  • By the 1970s the remaining HOLLYWOOD section was a crumbling wreck an “O” had fallen down The old sign was taken down on August 8th 1978, and the new sign was complete on October 30th that year, built to the same specifications.
